Burns Attempts Policy: Swing and a Miss!

For a while now an internal debate has been raging inside Change for Monroe.

Is the mayor truly stupid or just pretending to be stupid to attract a certain kind of voter?

As I’m the one writing this, you get to hear my opinion. The man is truly stupid.

Recently I challenged the mayor, and some of his acolytes, to explain the mayor’s social media posts (see: last blog). I pointed out that the mayor speaks about broad platform issues but never breaks down how he’s going to solve it or how he’s approaching it. Luckily, pointing this out has put the mayor in a position to defend himself, and we do appreciate that he takes notice of our comments. But remember the part about him being stupid? Yeah, he’s still just yammering about platform issues not actual policies.

For example, Mayor Whiny Britches claims that he is advocating at the state and national level to make drag shows 18+ in order to “protect children”. He claims that he’s “led efforts to strengthen definitions and enforcement around adult entertainment laws, aligning with state and federal protections…”.

Let’s break this down. He’s “led” the charge to make sure that current laws that already exist continue to exist? Literally adding nothing new to the fight, he just wants us to continue following existing laws? “Clearer ordinances”. What’s unclear and what are you trying to make clearer? If men have long hair, will they be violating one of your ordinances? Women wearing pants, straight to jail? “Better enforcement”. Here he is, joining in the attacks on our law enforcement for not doing their jobs…again. IF something illegal is happening, AND the police are not arresting perpetrators, THEN you have a problem within the police department. “Collaboration with law enforcement”. Dude, seriously? You have a police force under the direct supervision of the council and you need to work on collaboration? Is the poor collaboration because they're sick of you attacking them for not doing their jobs?

Un-fucking-believable. Nothing but a word salad so that his followers think that he ate. This is nothing more than a broad platform where he's oversimplifying nonsense. If you understand the English language you’ll see that this has no substance to it whatsoever.

So, let’s help the mayor out. Here are three policies that will help protect children in Monroe:

1. Child Homelessness Prevention:

Goal: Ensure no child in the city experiences homelessness by strengthening housing stability for families.

Policy Components:

Eviction Diversion Fund: Emergency rental assistance for families with children at risk of eviction, funded through public-private partnerships.

School-Housing Liaisons: Deploy housing case managers in public schools to identify and support housing insecure students.

Nonprofit Collaboration Zone: Use vacant city-owned properties as transitional housing in partnership with vetted nonprofits or churches.

This can work to stabilize families before eviction occurs, and integrates schools into the solution network where signs of distress often appear first.

2. Child Hunger/Food Insecurity

Goal: Provide consistent access to nutritious meals to every child in the city—year-round, regardless of income.

Policy Components:

Universal Afterschool Meals Program: Expand city support for free hot dinners at afterschool programs and rec centers.

Summer Food Mobile Units: Partner with libraries, faith groups, and parks to distribute grab-and-go meals via mobile kitchens when school is out.

Neighborhood Food Access Mini Grants: Offer small grants (\$2,000–\$10,000) to grassroots food pantries and meal programs working in high-need zones.

Addresses gaps in SNAP and school meals, leverages community infrastructure, and reduces stigma through universal access.

3. Preventing Gun Violence

Goal: Create a citywide culture and structure that prioritizes child safety in and around public spaces.

Policy Components:

School Safety Zones Ordinance: Designate 1,000 foot “Kids First Zones” around schools, parks, and youth centers with enhanced penalties for gun crimes.

Safe Storage Education + Distribution: Require firearm sellers to provide safe storage devices, and fund voluntary gun lock giveaways at city events.

Youth Gun Violence Prevention Task Force: Create a city/county working group including youth voices, violence interrupters, schools, and police to implement proactive interventions.

This combines law, education, and community empowerment to shift both behavior and city norms, while avoiding over-policing.

See, Mayor Cry-Baby? That’s how you talk about your policies. And here. I’m giving them to you for free. Because I care about this city. I live here. I want you to succeed. Everyone in the city  wants you to succeed, but you can’t. You can’t be a good mayor and remain a servant of hate. No matter what city you govern over.

I’ve already gone on long enough, but I think everyone gets the point. You’re not laying out policy, you’re just using buzz words so that rubes can feel good about your lack of initiative. But I do want to mention one more thing. Your post about voting against the budget that included the current tax rate...care to release your counter budget? Want to show us what you challenged the existing budget with? Let me guess. We’ll see it in “two weeks”.

Burns, you absolutely incompetent potato!
